Portable Fiber Laser Welding Machine

What are the Differences Between Air-Cooled and Water-Cooled Handheld Laser Welding Machines? Which One is Most Suitable?

Mar 01, 2024

Air-cooled and water-cooled fiber laser welding machines have significant applications in the market, each with its own characteristics and drawbacks. Today, let's explore the differences between these two types of equipment and how to choose the right one.

1.Air-cooled and water-cooled machines are suitable for different welding equipment.

Air-cooled cooling devices are compact, portable, and relatively inexpensive. They are suitable for meeting cooling requirements in traditional argon arc welding easily.

However, they generate significant noise, lack temperature adjustment and control, making them less suitable for handheld laser welding machines with high cooling requirements.

Water-cooled cooling devices, also known as laser chillers, use water for cooling, with water temperature adjustable and controllable via a temperature controller. They have lower noise levels and are more suitable for handheld laser welding machines with higher cooling demands.

2.Regarding post-maintenance, air-cooled and water-cooled machines are similar.

Most welding chillers on the market are cabinet-type, easily integrated into welding machine cabinets, and can be moved along with handheld laser welding machines, solving installation issues effortlessly.

Water-cooled systems use water circulation for cooling, requiring only periodic replacement of circulating water and minimal maintenance. Air-cooled chillers may accumulate dust on their fans and require frequent cleaning.

Water-cooled chillers need regular replacement of distilled or purified water to prevent scale formation and periodic cleaning of cooling fans.

3.How to choose between air-cooled and water-cooled?

Air-cooled systems are more suitable for low-power pulse lasers and some low-power continuous lasers, while water-cooled systems, being a larger cooling method, are more commonly used for high-power lasers. This distinction is crucial.

The cooling effect of air-cooled handheld laser welding machines is relatively weaker compared to water-cooled ones. Water-cooled systems use water flow to cool the laser beam, improving welding speed and efficiency. This cooling method is more stable and results in better welding quality compared to air-cooled systems. However, due to the need for water flow in the cooling system, water-cooled machines are relatively heavier and require more energy.

In summary, the choice between water-cooled and air-cooled systems depends on the user's specific requirements. If you have a high-power handheld laser welding machine, water-cooled systems may be the only option.
